We will be visiting our son in Konstanz, Germany in April. We had planned to meet Danish relatives in Hamburg later in the trip, but just found out they are now unable to travel due to health issues. We will take the train to visit them near Copenhagen and plan to stop in Cologne and Hamburg on the way north. Any suggestions for the return trip ending in Paris? I am considering Amsterdam, but we are also open to another stop in Germany. I traveled for 8 weeks back in 1979 and loved Amsterdam. My husband has only been to Denmark and Berlin with me in 2016. We are not necessarily looking for a long stay, just somewhere to break up the return trip to Paris. We will have 2-3 days between Copenhagen and Paris on the return trip. Thank you, this forum is awesome!
Is there a reason you want to do this journey by train? With cheap flights available Hamburg is as far away South I would consider taking the train from Copenhagen. Further than that flying Will be both significantly faster and cheaper.
Hello cap27. After your train ride to Cologne in Germany, I recommend : fly from the airport CGN or DUS to the airport of Copenhagen. I flew to the airport of Copenhagen. It was a small airport terminal. Arriving there, from a flight, was pleasant and easy. With quick and easy transfer to a railroad train. When you depart from Copenhagen, I recommend : fly from Copenhagen to Schiphol airport of Amsterdam (if you decide to go to Amsterdam). And ride in a railroad train from Amsterdam to Paris.
Germany is great for getting around by train. Having been in Copenhagen and looked at travel options to visit a cousin in Hamburg, I'd now say a flight is the best way to make the trip. Either train or car from Scandinavia costs too much and takes too long.
