My husband and I are going to Europe for 4 weeks Aug-Sept. Would like advice on good travelers insurance.

Zahra, Are you referring to Travel Medical Insurance or a more comprehensive package that includes Trip Cancellation, Baggage Loss, etc.? You might want to speak with a Travel Agent or your local Insurance firms, as they will likely offer whatever type of insurance you decide on. The agency that Rick often uses is: Elizabeth Holmes Travel, Inc. 619 N. 35th St. Suite 330M Seattle, WA 98103 Phone (206) 547-8361
(800) 588-8361 Happy travels!

Rather than a TA or insurance agent I'd take a look at insuremytrip.com for policy comparisons. Unless you're going on an expensive tour or cruise (in which case you should have bought insurance within two weeks of booking, so pre-existing conditions were covered) I see no need for trip interruption/cancellation insurance and don't buy it myself. Your homeowner's insurance should cover you for loss or theft. Check your medical insurance. If it doesn't cover you for emergencies abroad you do need medical insurance. You also need medical evacuation insurance, I buy mine from sevencorners.com.

So I already bought my main flight and a couple of hotels. I still need to book about 6 more hotels and a few trains and mini flights. My health insurance will cover me oversees. So I should talk to my home insurance to see if they cover theft while I'm away? Also is it worth still getting travelers insurance.. I wish when I went to Edmonds they would have told me that.

We are 71 and 64 and we have never bought insurance of any kind when we have travelled. I look at insurance as an impedinentia of society and only buy it when legally necessary.

I go to Europe every summer and while I am there, I take a RS tour. In the package of materials that we receive from the RS folks is a flyer from Travel Guard Travel Insurance.
The RS folks did not endorse this company but said they were providing it for information purposes only. This summer will be the first time that I no longer have medical coverage while in Europe (Medicare) so I checked out "insuremytrip.com" for general information and prices and ended up getting a policy from Travel Guard. I purchased that insurance immediately after paying for my RS tour and my airfare so that my pre-existing conditions would be covered. We chose to get a broad based policy that covers almost everything since it added very little to the cost of just a medical policy. Whatever you choose to do, DO READ ALL THE FINE PRINT CAREFULLY. There were lots of conditions and exclusions.

We have used American Express Travel Insurance for five years now. We sign up for the medical insurance about two weeks before we go overseas. It is very reasonable. Elaine
