Travelcards, 2-4-1, oystercards

Hi. Our family of 4 (2 adults, one 10 year old, one 13 year old) will be in London for 3 days in July.
We definitely want to take advantage of the 2-4-1, so here's my question. Would this scenario work: for the 2 adults to get a travelcard (therefore qualifying us for the 2-4-1) so our kids would get in free to the attractions and our 13 year old to get an oyster card? Because I know that our 10 year old travels for free. Need a little help please. Thank you!

Cynthia, To use the 2 for 1 offers, both of the "2" must have the rail travelcard for "1" to be free. That means if only the two adults have travelcards, one adult will be pay and one adult will be free. The two children would be subject to the applicable entrance fees. This post from Tripadvisor does a good job of explaining the options for kids. Travelcards and Oyster. Scroll down in the article to the heading labeled "children".

Thank you! Your answer is the best clear answer I've gotten from anywhere else! So what you're saying is that ALL 4 of us would need a travelcard from a railway station in order for 2 of us to get in free to attractions, correct?

Yes. You would need 4 tickets to get 2 free. But keep in mind that you really need to do the math on the specific places you want to visit to see if a travelcard will save money for the kids. Some sights have reduced rates for children and the 2 for 1 offer is based on the adult price. Both of the questions below are from the FAQs on the Days Out website How many train tickets are required per voucher? Whilst you will only have one London Attractions voucher between 2 people, both people need to hold valid train tickets for the day of their visit. How many vouchers are required? One voucher is required per two people. The voucher entitles one person to get in for free whilst the other pays the full adult rate, regardless of whether they qualify for concessions, e.g. Under 16, Senior, or Student. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions.
