Travel to Swizerland, France, Austria, Germany

Hi

I will travel from Canada to Basel then I would like to rent a car and travel to Travel to Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany.

Should I rent the car from Basel (CH) or from Mulhouse (France)? I think that the airport has an exit on each of these countries,
Which company should I better use ? Avis, Alamo, Herz, Sixt? Are there high cross border fees or some companies don't charge them?

I think I need vignette for Austria and for Switzerland highways.

If I rent from Swiss side of Basel airport I think that the vignette is included for Switzerland but renting from France side (Mulhouse) seems to be less expensive (and I need to buy vignette). Where should I rent from ?

Wondering if I can cross in all these 4 countries above if I rent from Switzerland or from France?

What else I need to take in account when crossing borders among these 4 countries: Switzerland, France, Austria, Germany.

Thank you so much, I'm stressed about this trip. :-)

A good way to select a rental car is to use an aggregator like autoeurope.com. Then check the agency's website for FAQs about border crossings, etc. Perhaps some clever company offers worry-free rentals with vignettes for all the countries?

If you rent in Switzerland, return it in Switzerland to avoid international drop fee. The car has to be returned to its home country to be rented again. So if you drop it in another country, it has to be transported and guess who pays for that.

Take note of what Sam says. Fees run 500-1,000 euros.
