Hi everyone, My wife and I are going on our second anniversary to paris, venice and rome. we are looking for some travel tips and advice for these places. we already bought the paris pass to be economical. we were wondering for food we wanted to try and be on a budget so are there any good options for getting stuff from the markets and grocery stores. Any general travel tips and advice you have for these places would greatly be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Dear Hari, you truly need a guidebook for these cities for the best results. We have relied upon them for hotel listings ( usually an area in which you can save a lot of money), for transportation info, for selfguided walks. We have had to reread it when anxious for the right train track, for example. We've always had good results with the suggestions for the Rick Steves restaurants; having the guidebook in our possession to flip thru and find the map makes life so much better. The Rick Steves guidebooks also have good general tips like the packing list and the moneybelt issue. Check it out!
Hari, Did you realize that this site is possible because Rick Steves writes and sells guide books that have all the information you are looking for? Most of the recommendations that people here would make are found in those guide books.
I agree with the other posters. Please avail yourself of guide books. You're asking for travel tips for three major cities. I've found Rick's guides to these cities to be invaluable.
Venice -- hard to be economical, grocery stores aren't much of an option, although there are some, they aren't in easy to find places. Rome -- find places locals are eating, you'll be amazed how much less you will spend. Not too hard to find grocery stores and the alike. Cheap eats around (and within) Termini. Paris -- lots of good street food and ethnic joints. If you have never had a kebab, clear your stomach and arteries, they are cheap and filling. Chowhound is a good resource for finding inexpensive, but really good food.
