Rachelle, if you happen to have any samples of "free gift with purchase" from Lancome, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, etc you could always put your moisturizer in one of those. I have loads of empty containers like that which I save just for travel. I have put moisturizer, makeup base, body creme & even hair gel in these small containers. Perfect for a week or two.

Rachelle, this is your opportunity to go into a shop and buy some "foreign" products. I always buy toothpaste (I have a tube of Greek toothpaste in my bathroom now) moisturizer, shampoo, soaps, etc., in Europe. Every time I use them I am pleasantly reminded of where I bought them.

Hi Rachelle. Get a smaller bottle or jar and squeeze your favorite lotion into it. Almost none of my liquids are in their original containers due to size when I travel. You can find travel-size containers at drugstores and places like Target.

Nivea Beauty Creme Travel Tins can be found at Walgreens and definitely online. Wonderful old time moisturizing creme. Never leave home without it. Length of trip decides how many tins I take.

Nalgene makes 2 ounce bottles that are leak proof. Put what you like in one of these.

Most of the travel sections have small travel size bottles you can use for your favorite brand. Any small travel size will work for the flight. When you hit the ground, buy a full size container to travel with. My wife would go through a travel size in no time - especially if we're getting sun.

i don't know where you're going specifically but in germany the "drogeries" (akin to a drug store in the u.s. except they don't sell medicine - weird, I know) usually have a much larger ion of travel-sized products than i've seen elsewhere, including awesome brands like nivea. depending on where you first stop is, i'd consider buying some when you get here. airports and especially train stations in europe tend to have shops that sell stuff like this in them or very nearby.

Hi Rachelle, Another alternative is a multi-purpose cream. For instance, when I traveled to Italy, I realized that sunscreen would be a REALLY good idea. I found a Cover Girl cream that was : foundation, moisturizer, and sunsreen in one bottle in a carry - on size. That way instead of 3 bottles in the ziploc bag, I could put 1 in and then leave room for shampoo, etc. I just bought it at CVS. :)

wow! thanks everyone for your quick responses and great ideas! i like the reminder that i will be able to get what i need while i'm there; i keep forgetting that. it's my first trip to Europe and i want to be totally prepared, but i need to prepare myself for the fact that i might forget something and things might not go as i plan but i have to be flexible!
thanks everyone!

I am doing the same thing in regards to finding travel sized products and just wanted to let you know that individual minis from gift with purchase bonuses (Clinique, Lancome, Clarins, etc.) are available on eBay as well.

There is this reference as well at cheaptravelsizes dot com. I have not used this site myself, but they do have name brands.

Hi Rachelle,
If you decide to transfer items to your own travel containers, take a look at Go Toobs. After experimenting with others, I found these work the best for me - certainly the easiest to fill. They come in 3 sizes and various colors. Have a wonderful trip!

I agree... get small containers and fill with your own.. I have very special products that I use for my hair, face ect.. and don't want to bring all full size containers.. I have found clear small bottles online and in the drug store and I also save the containers that I get from any samples that I can reuse..

I agree with either squeezing your own out into containers (Bed, Bath, and Beyond has a good selection) or use this as an opportunity to shop in a European drug store for your needs. I find that the smaller size containers don't get me through a long trip across the pond, so I bring the small containers to get me started, and then go shopping for toothpaste, shampoo, etc. once there. Have fun with it!

For my last month long trip, I found some flattish cylindrical "jars" in a drugstore at home. They are heavier plastic than the squeeze bottles usually found and held enough face cream/lotion to last me for a month. (about 1 inch in diameter and about half an inch high with a screw on lid.) I decided I would take my own since I have sensitive skin. They worked much better for me than what I previous used. Samples are great if you can get them!

I use Olay Renegist serum moisturizer and it comes in a 50ml pump, which is legal size,, plus its easy to close off.
I have had rotten luck with using other containers,, they often seem to leak or dispense too much product.

I definitely recommend buying when you arrive. It will be an experience you won't forget trying to figure out what is in those foreign jars and tubes, plus you might find something really cool. The other thing you can do is to buy things that will double up. So a shampoo and body wash or a simple bar of soap that can be used with clothes.

I have taken a small jar of Olay moisturizer in my 3-1-1 bag just fine. The advantage of a jar is that you can get all the product out. For my next trip I will take what I use daily, Olay complete ageless skin renewing UV lotion SPF 20, 2.5 fl oz (75 ml). It comes in a bottle with a pump top that easily switches from open to closed. These are just two of many smaller sized Olay options that meet 3-1-1 requirements. They can be found at many stores, but in my experience, Target has the best selection. They are in with the Olay products, not in the special bins for travel-size products.
