Travel Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!

At this time when people are making resolutions for the new year, I thought I'd ask if anyone has any travel resolutions.

Most of us probably have our own way of traveling that we enjoy and that works well for us. But I know that I for one could stand to step outside of my comfort zone a little. That’s why, if I ever get the chance to travel this year (please, please, please!), I will, for example, not stick to familiar favorites while dining. I don’t mind eating by myself, even in nice restaurants, but I’ m afraid to eat things if I’m not absolutely sure what’s in them. So I end up eating pasta fra diavalo every night:) Not that there’s anything wrong with that - it’s sooo good! But I know experiencing new cuisine is a large part of the travel experience, so I resolve to take more gastronomic chances:)

Penny,

Happy New Year to your also, and everyone on the HelpLine!

I've never thought about "Travel Resolutions" but it's an interesting question. Will have to give this some further thought.....

I've never thought about travel resolutions, Penny, but this is probably a good time to start. I think my resolution will be to talk to people more when I travel. I'm friendly when people speak to me, but I'm pretty introverted and rarely initiate conversations. I would probably get more out of my trips if I was a little more outgoing. Thanks for the idea and happy new year!

I'm going back to Ireland in May and I still won't try the black pudding.

My resolution is to take at least 3 trips each calendar year. Italy in 4 weeks, possibly Poland in August, not sure where or when else yet, but I'm working on it.

Pack more black tops and fewer various colors. Black always looks good especially in photos and make travel clothing decisions much easier. I actually have this on my Facebook NY resolutions! Cheers & safe and happy travels in 2010!

Being a solo traveler, I often opt for the "grab something easy" method of eating, instead of being brave and sitting down in a restaurant for a culinary adventure. I resolve to break the habit on my trip to Spain this spring and ditch the hotel room picnics in favor of some proper meals with silverware.

We hereby resolve to not check any luggage (at least on our departing flight) to Europe this year! Of course, unless forced by any new TSA rule/regs.
We also resolve to finally admit that we are considering retiring in Europe rather the USA.

I resolve to learn how to dress in layers. (Really. I have no idea.)

I'm with you on this one. I love what I end up eating, but in a two month trip I didn't ever eat in a restaurant. Or have a drink somewhere by myself. I enjoy the picnics, but a real meal or two would be a brave adventure.

I resolve to continue to "push" hubby to try Italy. A few weeks ago he finally said "maybe". I keep wishihng. We've travled to Europe for more than 20 years (twice a year most of those years) and haven't yet seen Italy.

I'm resolving to work on my Finnish language skills (I studied abroad in Finland years ago and used to be able to get around using the language). I might have the opportunity to visit friends this summer and I want to be able to at least somewhat talk with their children. ;)

I also want to do some solo traveling, mainly to Finland but also to maybe in Stockholm/Copenhagen on my way to visit another friend who will either be in Dublin or London. I've always traveled with someone else and I want to experience solo travel.

I love your responses; I'm going to have to add some of these to my list!
And Larry, I'm with you on the black pudding. I don't think I'll ever be that adventurous:)

I resolve to travel outside of my comfort zone. I am a solo traveler and I have seen most of Europe. I would like to venture outside of Europe and experience places like India and China.
