Travel Man

Since some of you are sharing travel shows to watch while we are stuck at home, I thought I would share one of my favorites. We recently binge watched a tv series called Travel Man on Hulu. It stars British comedian Richard Ayouade who travels to different cities in the world for 48 hours with other comedians (mainly British) as tagalong sidekicks. It is hysterical. There are about 35 shows in all and I wish there were more. I highly recommend this series.

Sorry, I find this series a waste of time. You learn very little of each destination and it’s more about the egos. I haven’t recognised places that I have visited. Each to their own!

Thanks for the suggestion!! I've been reading and watching all things travel. I had to cancel my first ever trip to Europe (Switzerland and Italy) this past Spring. I've become a little obsessed with travelling since then. I've got about 15 trips partially planned now. 😊 I want to go everywhere!!!!

Thank you, Mary. I think we could all do with a laugh nowadays, and since it’s based in different European cities, even better!

I love this show. I get a good laugh at least once or twice in each episode, and it's so different from Rick Steves' shows (which I love!)...and I like variety. It's produced with quality, which is my main beef with travel shows I might find on YouTube. My favorite episode is the trip to St. Petersburg. So funny.

I enjoy the show. It's done more for comedy value than a serious, comprehensive travel guide but there are often some interesting exhibits/attractions/excursions featured. Richard Ayouade is a very dry comedian and he's not to everyone's taste but I like his humour.

I respect his sense of humour and I find it occasionally funny, but it also depends on his guest. The first time I saw an episode was maybe 5 years ago and his guest visited Spain. She was a more knowledgable traveler and I enjoyed that episode, but I don't think I have tolerated an entire episode again. Give me a comedian or a travel show. Don't dilute both by combining. Michael Palin knows better....

I love Richard Ayoade's very dry humor and find Travel Man to be a great aperitif travel show, especially for these dark times. I like that he visits and participates in often eccentric locations and activities but that the viewer sees some of the city as they move about (and I appreciate how he draws a line on the map showing where he is moving around the city) and gets some statistics about the place. I have been to AMS many times and long ago moved beyond tourist sites, but I didn't know about the swing on the roof of that hotel (hilarious scene). You could say he goes to the random places you might for the heck of it if you had ample time and money to burn (quirky hotels and niche museums and tastings of specific things I wouldnt taste) - which you dont - and gives you that experience. Its not RS or Palen, but Im not looking for earnest when I watch Aoyade. Im looking for 22 minutes of a laugh and a quirky view of places new to me or that Ive been many times
