Travel insurance - what and where to buy?

We have insurance coverage through our health plan in the US but it is basic with a large deductible and does not provide evacuation insurance.

We need to purchase some type of basic coverage and possibly trip cancellation insurance or trip interruption (especially in light of the volcano).

I'm also trying not to overlap coverage as we do have baggage insurance when you book with American Express.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I had a very good experience with Travelex and use it every year for my trip to Europe.

I have used CSA. I'm not sure they are the cheapest, I am not sure that you can get what you want without duplicating coverage. What I am sure about is this: We had to file a claim. They were wonderful to work with and they paid our claim 100 per cent. Many people recommend the web site insuremytrip.com where you can compare plans. Just be sure you check out the plan (including the fine print) and the company before buying. I have heard a few horror stories.

We are traveling to Europe next month. I just called the CSA insurance company. they clearly told if you buy a travel insurance policy after April 15th and your trip is canceled because of Volcanic ash, the policy does not cover the losses. Too bad..
