Travel medical evacuation

Check to see what travel insurance you might already have. I currently have evacuation insurance included with my health insurance. When I roll over to Medicare and supplements, I will need to verify what my coverage includes. I know it does include healthcare abroad.
I'm not sure any of my credit cards include evac. I would guess, not.
Where you are traveling may make a difference to you in terms of whether evac is important. There are countries that I'd be happy getting medical care, and some countries my preference would be to get home ASAP.
My frustration with travel insurance is that they bundle so much of it together when I only need a few items that my other insurances do not cover.

Read the fine print as the devil is always in the details. Many travel policies will only evacuate one to the nearest facility that can treat the illness / injury. MedJet Assist will, if you are hospitalized, bring your home. They have a variety of long and short term plans. Strickly evac. insurance -- not medical insurance. Google them and see what you think.

We only buy medical evacuation and repatriation insurance because our supplemental plan covers medical. You can go to squaremouth.com to build a policy. We are going to France/Spain for 3 weeks this year and policies start as low as $73.

Your medicare supplement often will cover you up to $50k But you pay and wait for reimbursement. We are in Europe for 4 months and picked up Faye Insurance for ~$800 Only had it cover $6000 for non refundable plane tickets and Eurail pass and non refundable Train seat reservations. It has medical and repatriation too. Most of our apartments and hotels had free cancellations so the $6k was a good amount for out of pocket expenses prior to leaving the US. (for two people)
