Make sure you choose the level that includes medical and medical evacuation insurance. We have always used Travel Guard; they paid three large claims quickly, canceled trips due to medical problems.
And since you’re headed to Egypt, I had excellent medical care in Luxor, Egypt at the Luxor Medical Clinic, English speaking staff providing emergency care for ex pats and travelers. Our Travel Guard insurance covered it 100%, a specialist visit, MRI, xrays, etc. ( all due to incorrect treatment by a doctor in Rome prior to arrival in Egypt.) They gave me all the documentation I needed to file a claim once I returned home.
I don’t know what AAA and AARP would offer, never thought of them. We loved our trip to Egypt and Jordan, the history, antiquities and food!

JILL, everything depends on what you want to be protected from: financial losses due to cancellation or emergencies, and/or medical coverage. There's a good comprehensive discussion right here on this page under "Travel Trips" and then "Trip Planning" Rcik's tips- insurance. pay close attention to the discussion of medical coverage and medical evacuation and the limitations. Note there have been several recent threads on the subject you can find by Searching - Search box on top of this page.

Almost all travel / trip cancelation policies have medical cost and medical evacuation coverage. But read the fine print about the med. evac. coverage. Some policies will only pay for evacuation to nearest appropriate medical facility. Others may return you to your home for further care. There is a company called MedJet Assist that you should check out. Just google it. It us NOT medical cost nor trip cancellation insurance that you definitely should get anyway. Med Jet is strickly evacuation back home if you are more than 150 miles away. They have many different plans -- annual, short term, longer term and etc. If you do a lot of traveling, an annual plan may be cheaper thatn paying on a per trip basis. Haven't checked the last 12 months or so and their rate structure may have changed.
