just read this in the UK Telegraph about changes to trip Insurance now excluding Covid-19 as a reason for trip cancellation. Pretty sure U.S. insurers will follow or have already done so.

World Nomads Will ensure you for Covid
I just insured a trip. Cost me $50.
Now my program only pays if I get sick or the Destiination is closed. If I decide I’m scared to travel they are very clear that that’s on me.
I would like to read the fine print of that policy. $50 is beyond dirt cheap. Most travel insurance policies run, price wise, between 5 to 10% of the covered costs. At $50 that would suggest coverage in the range of $1000 or less for trip expenses. I would do a little double checking.
I just Googled World Nomads Insurance. It appears as if the reason their insurance is so cheap is because their customer service is very poor (non-existent? ) if you ever need to use it ( or even cancel it during the "cooling off period" ). I would strongly recommend double ( or triple ) checking, as Frank suggested, before buying ...
Thanks Kenneth for the warning. I guess you get what you pay for. Interesting that the policies are underwritten by Nationwide.
Please note the $50 for his medical insurance only it didn’t cover anything else. I didn’t need anything else covered. It covers me getting sick and it covers delays if the airport should close etc.
Trust me I read the policy before I spent the $50
I also read the other information. I’m not really worried about it. The reviews I read actually demonstrated they do OK on medical and lousy on everything else. But of course I only bought for medical so I’m not worried.
This is only for Medical. If I need anything else I’ll deal with it but I don’t think I will simply because everything else is full refundable up until I show up at the door including my airfare
Carol, does it include medical evacuation? And does it pay medical as your primary coverage, or secondary to what your own insurance will pay?
Just FYI, I bought a World Nomads policy in October 2019 for a trip in March 2020 --- long before Covid was a "known hazard." About half way through the trip, we had to head home when airports started closing because of Covid. I was not covered for any trip interruption or flight changes. Had I personally contracted Covid or been quarantined during the trip, I would have been covered. Trip interruptions because of government actions, like closing airports or hotels, were excluded.
Maybe they have changed their policies since last October.

While it can be annoying sometimes, it's not always possible to know for sure that others can't view an article. Some sources absolutely bar a non-subscriber from viewing anything w/o paying, but others allow a limited number of articles to be read by non-subscribers.
A number of sites are offering open coverage for coronavirus-related stories.
