We will be traveling in Norway and the United Kingdom in June-July, 2025. Are there any recommendations for travel insurance especially as it concerns trip cancellation, trip interruption or trip delay? Thank you.
If you are on a tour you should cover its cost for all the reasons you list above.
We have always used Travel Guard with good outcomes when trip was canceled or interrupted.
Also look at Allianz. There are good reviews on the forum. I have bought it for several trips but never had to file a claim. The one time my friend and I bought Travel Guard, our claims was denied. TG seems to get love or hate reviews.
Besides trip cancellation, etc, be sure your policy has evacuation. Most comprehensive trip insurance does, but read the fine print. A stand-alone evacuation company is Medjet which many of us prefer because it will get us home instead of to the nearest facility.
If you are on Medicare, be aware that Medicare will not cover you outside of the US. Medicare supplements may or may not have out of US coverage. My Part F has $50,000 lifetime overseas benefit. I always buy either comprehensive trip insurance that includes medical or/and stand-along medical such as GeoBlue. Be aware of trip insurance pre-existing conditions clause.
Bottom line, before buying, read the policy fine print and reviews. You will find lots of information on the forum; use the search feature at the top of the page, narrow your search to "forum" and "one year" (maybe two).
Depends upon what kind of vacation you are taking. If you are on a prepaid tour then certainly trip insurance is indicated. However if you are self guided and "paying as you go" there may not be as much of a prepaid investment. Usually our only prepaid expense is the Airplane ride. I do however now (at age 73) buy evacuation insurance which is relatively inexpensive.
Compare your options at insuremytrip.com or squaremouth.com. You can put in your requirements and they will give you quotes from different companies.
We used Allianz in 2023 for our month long trip in England France and Italy. Medical claim from trip to hospital in Bayeux France was paid extremely timely and included my out of pocket expenses for wound care. We purchased it when booking airline tickets thru Alaska Airlines for British Airways. I think you can buy thru Allianz website as well. It was extremely inexpensive………
