travel in Poland and beyond

My husband and I are going to Poland for the first time in Sept. 2012. We plan to travel from Krakow to Zamosc and then to Vienna and Budapest. Is it best to take the train to Lublin and then take a bus to Zamosc? We are thinking about renting a car in Zamosc for a week. Any suggestions? thanks so much!
