Travel in central europe

My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe in Mid September
We only have 14 days of vacation, but 2 of the days are for travel to and from the US.
So really only 12 days for touring.
We are thinking about. Visiting Berlin, Prague, Vienna , and Salzburg.
Our question is, can we comfortably visit all of these cities in 12 days , or should we eliminate one of the cities.
If we eliminate one city , which one should we eliminate?

Thanks
Tom

Not a bad choice for 12 days.

You should be able to enjoy all four cities.

I would go with three days at each city. You can see Salzburg in one full day (two nights), but you might also wish to visit Berchtesgaden, Germany, nearby.

Consider flying open jaw, into Berlin, then out of Vienna, or perhaps Munich.

I would go with three days at each city.

Twelve days... four cities... three days each... that seems to make sense.

But does it really? He has to get from place to place. That will actually leave only two full days for each city. Just something to consider.

Tom, you have not filled out the home city profile information - perhaps unfounded fear of hackers? But it is relevant to your post. Homebound departure time affects the number of cities you can really see, and whether you have to fly two segments home ...

Your original plan is good, but if you can't fly home from Munich, I might drop Salzburg. Berlin is good for five nights, and three are barely enough for Prague and Vienna. Daytrips are available if you get bored with downtowns!

Personally, I would drop Salzburg, as otherwise the rest of the trip is rushed, after accounting for travel between each location.

I also would drop Salzburg and the train time to get there and to later get to Munich airport. Berlin, Prague, and Vienna are all cities where I've appreciated having three full days for sightseeing. If you wanted another stop in the mix, Dresden is along the way, so doesn't add any train time.

Based on some of the comments we have decided to drop Salzburg from our Itinery.
We dont want to feel rushed and want to make sure we have adequate time for the cities that we are going to visit.
We will be loosing some time for travel between cities also.
Our trip starts in LA to Miami, then transfer to Paris.
We will spend the night there and then head to Central Europe the next day.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what city we should fly to first and what city we should end at before we fly back to Paris?
Berlin, Prague, Vienna ? Or. Vienna, Prague, Berlin?
We willl connect to each city by train.

In terms of train travel, I don't think it's going to make much of a difference which way around you go.

You may want to check for events taking place in those cities during your travel time:

  • events you may be interested in and might want to visit,
  • events that you want to avoid, like major trade fairs and the like, which will only raise hotel prices.
  • holidays (for Germany, Oct. 3 is a public holiday, but that is probably not going to affect you if you have 14 days starting mid-September)
