Travel from Zurich to Ljublijana

We're going to take a RS tour which starts in Ljublijana, Slovakia. After an extensive search of airfares, I think our best bet is to fly into Zurich, and then travel on from there. So, my question is, what's the best way to get from Z to L?
Looking at an overnight train option, I can't tell if the individual compartments have a toilet, or just a sink. Not keen about having to walk down a train car to use a common bathroom in the middle of the night. Anyone know if the night train offers. Any recommendations and/or advice would be appreciated.

Ljubljana is in Slovenia.

We took an overnight train from Munich to Croatia. Our private room had a sink but toilet was down the hall.

It does not look like the Nightjet from Zurich to Ljubljana has deluxe cabins which have ensuite toilet and shower, but it is still hard to tell.
In the booking process, I only see standard sleeper units, although this diagram shows with a toilet and a sink.

PS Badgers Youtube is 10 years old, so maybe someone has current info.

There are no Nightjets from Zürich to Ljubljana, so the diagram above is pretty useless. Although if you want a private bathroom there is a Nightjet from Zürich to Graz.

It is a Euronight train, not a Nightjet, and is operated with modern Croatian cars, which have no deluxe version- according to Man in Seat 61- see option 2 on this page- https://www.seat61.com/Croatia.htm#london-to-zagreb-by-train

Just a sink in the compartments.

The type of cars where generations of people have used the facilities at the end of the cars.

Nightjet can sell berths on the train, but it is not operated by them.

The service continues on to Zagreb.

Zurich is not a convenient airport to fly in to if you want to get to Ljublijana. If fluying directly to Ljublijana really is to expensive look at Venice or Vienna.

I have been on the night train (even as far as Zagreb) and it is a nice train, but no en suite bathroom. I have also travelled the route using day time train, but those are of course not direct. It is a nice, and scenic trip though. In that case I would spend the night in Zurich, and take the 8:40 EC Transalpin the next morning. Get a 1st class ticket (booked in advance these are not expensive) and enjoy the panorama car.

When I try to buy this from SBB for a random date in early June, it does not offer 1st class. I assume this is because the Villach-Ljubljana leg is 2nd class only. 1st class is available as far as Villach. Is there a trick to split classes in the purchase process?

Assuming we are talking the day train now- On OBB you can book this as a through 1st class ticket- but the last leg from Villach is 2nd class only when you drill down into the train details. So you buy a through 1st class ticket, and will be assigned seats in 1st class on the two initial legs, then in 2nd class on the 3rd leg.

That happens to be the way that Man in Seat 61 tells you to book it.

Make sure to pick seats in car 309, as that is the panoramic one. But also know that you are not glued to your seats. If it turns out that not all seats are taken (which is very probable) you can always pick better seats yourself. Leaving from Zurich you want to be sitting on the left side in the direction of travel. (The train reverse in Buchs, which puts you on the right, which is again the good side...)

Thanks everyone for your opinions and suggestions. After reviewing your comments, we decided to change our plans from Zurich to Venice. And we’ll travel to Slovenia either by bus or via Go Opti. Thanks again

Grace, I highly recommend Go Opti. Very easy transport to Ljubljana. If you have an extra day, you might want to travel from Venice to Trieste (train is easy) and stay overnight. Trieste is a hidden gem. And then take Go Opti from the train station in Trieste to Ljubljana. Super easy.
