There are 6 of us arriving at the Cruiseship Port in Rome and need transportation to the center of Rome. Is there a reasonable way for us to do this.
With 6 people, you might consider a large taxi into Rome. Make sure that the taxi can hold all of your luggage plus the six.
Second, you can get a limo service that will hold all plus luggage in an 8-passenger Mercedes van. Cost looks like 140Euro from the docks to Rome. CLICK HERE for the link.
Finally, you can take the train in from the Civitavecchia train station. You can get a bus from the ship to the port entrance and then it's just over 5 long blocks to the train station. The ICPlus train costs 8.50Euro and the Eurostar run costs 10Euro. If you can get an R train run, it's less than both the ICPlus or Eurostar. Which train you can get all depends on what time you get to the train station and when you want to depart.
First, do a search on Civitavecchia and you will find lots of responses to this frequently asked question. The train for six will cost you in the range of 50-60E and a fair amount of inconvenience. First, you need to get to the train station and that will require a walk of about a mile with luggage if your cruise is terminating. The ship will provide a shuttle to the port entrance but you are on your own after that. You will see a huge mass of taxi BUT they want the big fare to the airport or Rome. Second there will be long and slow line to buy tickets at the station since their will be lots of folks doing the same thing. And more so if more than one ship in port. The good news is that this is a commuter run to Rome so there are about three trains an hour. Get a second class ticket on first train going. You may have to stand but it is only an hour or so depending on stops.
At 60E you are close to the price for a taxi to Rome but six people will not fit in a taxi especially if you have luggage. You best alternative is to hire a van and driver to meet you. I am guessing that a van could be closer to a 100E but the convenience should be worth something. Some of the earlier responses have id different private car companies.
Is the luggage staying on the ship? If so, a walk or short taxi to the train station is the way to go. The train won't get caught up in Rome's traffic and you can get right in to the Termini area.
If it's the end of your trip and you have a lot of luggage, the train will be harder because you have to get it on and off the train and to your hotel. In that case the taxi may be your best option.
