travel from Nice to Lake Como

Hi all, I really need some advice on the best way to get from Nice to Varenna in Lake Como. Whatever is the fastest and or more scenic, but it seems a bit complicated. Is it best to go straight to Milan and then go to Como from there? We'll be in Como for three days before ending our trip with two days in Milan and flying from from there. Thanks for any help you can provide, headed there next month!

Hi,
Yes, travelling to Milan by the direct route (via Ventimiglia and the coast) is by far the most practical way. It is less scenic than it used to be (lots of new tunnels) but there are still some good views on the right-hand side.

For trips like this the Rome2Rio app or website is very helpful. A quick search shows the recommended route as posted above by demarl. Note that while the departure from Nice is hourly the train from Ventimiglia to Milano is every four hours so plan accordingly. Milano to Varenna Esino departs hourly.
