Travel Apps? Lay them on me!

Hello fellow journeyers!

For my upcoming trip I have an App-etite for the best travel apps for Europe. Which do you recommend and why?

My reco's:

Komoot. I blend cycling and cycle touring into my trips, and Komoot is a robust and accurate route planning gps tool in Europe. Good for hiking too, and you can download your planned routes so the work offline.

Duolingo. Perhaps you can point me to better, but I use Duolingo to brush up on foreign language basics before my trip. It might not be precisely tuned for travelers, but reading and pronouncing words in a foreign language over and over ahead of time makes me feel more oriented once I arrive. And I suppose I do need to be cyber harassed by an owl to keep up on my study.

Google Maps. As vanilla as It gets, but I do like to download the places where I will be ahead of time so I know that I always have a functional map in my pocket.

You? Let 'em fly!

Kim from Paris talked me in to Citymapper and I liked it a lot. Very easy to use for walking and public transit in Paris and Amsterdam.

Museum apps - often you can buy your ticket within the app as well as having museum floor plans, some have better info on artwork than others (Louvre is pathetic, Rijksmuseum and Mauritshuis excellent).

All airline and airport apps for your trip

Rick’s RS Europe app if I’m going to use his walking or museum tours

Taxi app - I used it a bit in Paris the last 2 times and downloaded one for Rome for my upcoming trip. I’m not much of a taxi user but it’s handy sometimes.

I have a yoga app that I can download practices to and don’t have to depend on hotel wifi to stream a workout.

Pam I dig the yoga app suggestion. Since way back, my wife and I often start a yoga or workout app appropriate for hotel rooms at the beginning of our trip.

I think I need to try Tripit? What does it do?

I use everything that periscope mentioned. Google translate has been invaluable. Paperless is definitely the way to go.

Also WhatsApp is quite handy.

WhatsApp
Google Translate
Google Maps
DayOne (or another journaling/photo taking app)
Flush (public toilet finder)
Google Trips
Kindle (for travel guidebooks - I also bring my Kindle e-reader)
DB navigator (German train app but has train schedules for every city in Europe)
OpenTable (mostly US but I have found lots of European restaurants, too)

Hank, TripIt is sort of an itinerary app. It will receive emails about travel (i.e., hotel and train reservations, flight info) and create an itinerary for you that you can amend to. Here's a link to their website that should give you an idea. It's really a nice app - I use it.

Definitely Citymapper and Google Maps.
Google Translate: you can get phrases in advance and save them for when needed.
Always have the apps for any airline you are taking, particularly nowadays.
Also the apps for any airport you are passing through.
Apps for trains or buses you plan to take on your trip, some have realtime scheduling, especially local buses.
AirBnB and Booking.com, in case you need to find accommodation in an emergency.
A flight tracking app....I like FlightView.
Your Kindle app for books, or one from your local library for books.
Podcast app.
Google Photos.
Netflix if you have it....download some things to watch offline.
Skype.
WhatsApp.
TripAdvisor.

I’m sure there are many more!
