Travel and Sightseeing in SE Bavaria Over Easter

I am trying to schedule a one-week holiday flat rental in Garmisch-Partenkirchen between 17-30 April inclusive. Would I likely have lighter autobahn traffic, less local tourists and greater rental availability between Frankfurt-Garmisch during the week before, or week after Easter? Are castles, museums, stores and resturants closed only betweeen 22-25 April 2011?

Using this website, you can check the school holiday schedule for next year for spring break, it varies between the Länder. I certainly would not count on tourists being less during this time period!

Bavaria is overwhelming catholic, so if there are things you want to see or visit, check their websites. Most museums and restaurants are not going to be closed on a holiday. Easter Monday is also an official holiday in Germany, but this just means stores are closed.

"Would I likely have lighter autobahn traffic" I don't think it will make any difference. Since moving here a couple of months ago, the only recognizable pattern seems to be that traffic is always heavy, and even heavier around Dutch holidays (I see more Dutch RVs and cars stuffed with luggage driving through here than any other nationality).
