Travel Alarm Clock with Earphone Jack?

So I purchased the travel alarm clock from the RS store but it doesn't work. Does anyone know of a travel alarm clock that comes with a earphone jack so I can plug in my earphones and have the alarm sound pipe into my ears to wake me up?

Smartphone with earbuds is a great idea, which I would be interested in trying myself sometime. Unfortunately, I just plugged my earbuds into my iPhone headset jack, set the alarm, and waited with volume turned all the way up for it to go off to see what it would be like. Oddly, the alarm sound didn't come through the headset, and I don't know why. I typically place my iPhone right by my pillow and the alarm is plenty loud to wake me up, especially if you choose one of the more annoying alarm tones.

I would not want to be tethered to a laptop or Netbook or tablet while asleep. What if I rolled over and inadvertently yanked it off the bedside table and it went crashing to the floor? I also don't think I would want wires that could get wrapped around my neck while asleep, but I'm a sometimes restless sleeper.

I just use my phone (smartphone but not GSM, so I only use it on wifi, or as a camera and alarm clock). No earbuds needed.

I'm disappointed and surprised that a product from the RS store was broken when you got it. I'm sure that they will replace it. Have you spoken to them? The Rick Steves Guarantee of Quality reds: Every Rick Steves travel product comes with our guarantee that it will be free from material and manufacturing defects for the life of the product. If a defect appears, we will either repair or replace the product (at our option) free of charge. This guarantee does not cover damage caused by an airline or other common carrier. Nor does it cover wear and tear to components and materials which may occur over time with use of the product.

Nigel, I think he means it didn't work, as in didn't wake him up (isn't loud enough or he is too deep a sleeper).

Do you really think you could sleep with a couple of wires coming out of your ears? I don't toss and turn much at all, but that just sounds like a recipe for a sleepless night.
