Transportation with toddler

Car seat on overnight flight for 2 yr old or not? If yes, we will then have to lug it (or use it) on trains and vans as we move from Paris to Rotterdam then short flight to London, then back to us. Any experiences to share?

I traveled a lot with my kid at that age. I ditched the carseat for flights after bassinet phase. Back then (over 10 years ago), I used something that worked like a harness that mimic a carseat strap. I'm sure they have something better these days. Search for child airplane harness. But what worked best was a good inflatable pillow as child leaned sideways to sleep on my lap/shoulder. Nowadays, said child brings a warm jacket (if traveling to cold place) and fold it inside a small pillowcase from home that is then used as a pillow.

For taxi rides, I put kid on lap and held tight.

Will your child sleep through the flight and stay belted in? If not, do you plan to stay awake the entire flight to monitor the child?

Had you considered sudden air turbulence and how to keep the child from becoming a missile?

2 year old.... 25 months old or 35 months old? I only flew domestic day time flights with our 35 month old '2 year old'.. This was long ago before the current car seat norm. She was very good at doing as instructed.

I have no personal experience, but there is an FAA approved safety harness you can buy for a toddler. It would be a lot easier to carry around than a car seat. On the link below, scroll down to the section “FAA-Approved CARES Device” to see what it looks like and read about it.
