I am going to be arriving in Vienna in Sept and am exploring my options for transport into the city center. Has anyone used the cityairporttrain CAT train or is taking a bus in a better option? Looking for the most economical also! Thanks!

I took the CAT train and while it was efficient, it also cost 12 euro. The S-bahn is much cheaper at around 5 euro- both go to Wien Mitte and then you can continue on by U-bahn to your destination. I was tired and beyond frazzled when I arrived so the CAT was easier for me, next time I'll make the effort for the S. I'm not likely to attempt a bus with my suitcase but the airport website does give detailed directions for all 3 options plus taxi and car service.

The CAT in Vienna is one of the worst "official" rip-offs in Europe. It's very expensive and the S-Bahn even provides better connections to the southern part of the city centre. Be aware that the station is designed to persuade people to take the CAT - there are prominent CAT ticket machines at the entrance, but no S-Bahn ticket machine until you get onto the platform.
