Transportation from Venice to London

I'm trying to figure out the best way to get from a cruise docking in Venice at 8 am to Heathrow Airport for a 17:10 British Air flight. My thoughts are to take 12:15 Easyjet flight from Marco Polo to Gatwick, take coach transportation to Heathrow (75 minutes).Any thoughts?

Have you already booked the 17:10 flight? Is it a flight back to Canada? If not, you might want to consider booking your flight on BA to return from Venice. I'd probably be more inclined to take a BA flight from VCE to LGW. If your VCE-LGW flight is delayed, Easyjet won't do anything for you to get you on your next flight. If both of your flights are BA, you have some leverage with BA if the VCE to LGW leg is delayed. Otherwise, assuming that your flight does land on time, you might be ok, but will be cutting it close. You will go through immigration at LGW and if you check any luggage you will need to wait for your bag. That could eat into your time.

I haven't booked any flights yet. I'm hoping to use my airmiles on British Air from Vancouver to London and return. The flights to and from Venice were extra. I thought the cheapest flights to Venice would be with Easy Jet or Ryan Air. British Air is quite expensive unless i have enough airmiles to get me from Vancouver to London to Venice then return the same way after my cruise.

Do not attempt this! The standard rule of thumb is to be at LHR a full three hours before a flight across the Atlantic. Even if your easyJet flight arrives on time (13:20), you get through immigration quickly, and you manage to catch the 14:05 coach, you won't get to LHR until 15:00. (The National Express site shows a scheduled ride time of 55 minutes.) If your flight is delayed and/or there is traffic congestion on the M25, you could arrive at LHR about the time your BA flight has departed.

thanks for your help. I'm going to try to find another way back to London from Venice so I'm not pressed for time.

When planning do not dismiss British Airways as being too expensive. We usually find that by the time you have added all the extra costs to the base cost of a budget airline flight, BA can turn out to be competitive. They also have more generous luggage allowances. I presume, going on a cruise, you will have more than carry on.

The luggage is a whole other problem and i have noticed the cost for luggage on the cheaper airlines. I'm going to add up all the flights again. I may just end up taking a charter from Vancouver to London as it costs half of what BA does. It all depends on how much my airmiles will help me. Of course, charters fly in and out of Gatwick so I'l have to rethink everything. I just want to visit London for a few days on route to our cruise. So much extra planning to do this.

Sherry, we are doing something similara flight to Heathrow from Seattle on BA using miles, then a separate flight to Spain (also on BA, but a paid ticket). We are returning to Heathros the day prior to our overseas flight just to be sure we don't miss the connection. we'll spend the night in Windsor and visit that area instead of going in to London.

Hi Lola, good idea. i think i'm going to try to go BA all the way even if it costs more. I'll use up my airmiles then book the extra leg and pay like you are doing. I would like to see Windsor and other areas of London but i know that after being away for 2 weeks, i'll want to get home the same day the cruise finishes.

You are fortunate in that your flight to Vancouver leaves late enough1 Ours to Seattle departs Heathrow at 15:15 so it's hard to connect the same day without leaving Spain pretty early. Are your certain that your BA miles won't carry you all the way to Venice? I didn't check on the difference; we chose to book the Spain leg separately as we weren't sure of our plans when we got the tickets as far as London (our original plan was to stay in the UK but that changed). We traveled to Venice on BA several years ago on miles, but was Alaska Airlines miles not BA miles. With Alaska miles there was no difference for the two destinations, but is there a difference if using BA miles?

There is a deal right now with BA giving me 1.5 airmiles for my 1 airmile. I've just done an itinerary and BA online won't let me book a connection arriving in Heathrow at 15:15 and departing for Vancouver at 17:10. It says to allow 120 minutes between connections. the only other flight from Venice flies into Gatwick but the Vancouver flight leaves from Heathrow. Back to my original problem now.
