Transportation between Munich, Nuremburg, Fluelen and Milan

I've looked at many posts and many websites (individual trains per country, Eurail, Man in Seat 61, and Rome2Rio), and I'm still struggling to find the best option between these countries.
Flying in Munich in December>Heading immediately to Nuremberg for 2 nights>
Back to Munich for 2 nights (12/23-25)>Fluelen 25-28>Milan 28-31
3 adults and one teen (17).
Originally planned on having a rental car. Would like to have the rental car until we are done in Fluelen, but I don't want to drive to Milan:

  1. Will there be issues with mountains/snow issues driving between Munich and Fluelen in December?
  2. Can I drop the rental car in Lucerne and take a train to Milan? It looks like Sixt has a rental car location around the corner (by train is the train we'd need)?

Lizaj,
One tip: to rent a car in one country and drop off in another entails a very big drop-off fee, usually between 500-1,000 euros.
I suspect snow may be an issue as well in December. Trains may be a better option for you.

A good rule of thumb regarding buying train tickets is: Buy your ticket from the National Railway of the country where the trip starts.
So in your case you would book your first couple of trips with DB, and the last one (Fluelen to Milano) with SBB.
