We have flights with BA that bring us in to LGW (Gatwick) and out thru LHR (Heathrow) 4 hrs and 40 mins later, on a Sunday morning. I am aware of the National Express buses (and the Rome2Rio app) but think that timewise we would be better with a car service. Does anyone here have recommendations as to a car service from LGW to LHR?
4 and a half hours is extremely tight whichever mode of transport.
It takes no account of incoming flight delays, nor the roadworks around the junction of the M25 and the A3 at Wisley. Or the almost predictable accidents on the M25 and other delays.
Can I ask if it is the Gatwick or the Heathrow flight which is the long haul one? Do you need 3 hours or 2 hours for check in at Heathrow? I'd allow at least an entire hour in a car.
Are you accounting for immigration and luggage claim?
Blackberry Cars and Just Airports are two companies mentioned frequently on this board.
"Can I ask if it is the Gatwick or the Heathrow flight which is the long haul one?" NY JFK to LGH is the long haul.
if you mean Gatwick (LGW) arrival from New York that gives you a little breathing space because if your Heathrow is a domestic or European flight 2 hours, or a bit less in a pinch, should be sufficient for check-in.
There are Sundays where there are roadworks which completely close the M25 motorway - the route from Gatwick to Heathrow - at the junction for the A3. It is only a few more times that it will be completely shut as they rebuild the junction. If your trip is before the end of this year I think the next complete closure is after the new year.
are you self connecting or is this on a through single ticket?
I ask because I worry about short connections between the two airports.
Others have named companies to drive you, and frankly although it is a long drive with all sorts of possible issues en-route, it is a very simple drive (a-road to the M23, M23 to the M25, M25 to the airport), depending on your terminal, so probably almost any driver can get you there.
“ are you self connecting or is this on a through single ticket?”
Through single ticket on BA.
I would go with Blackberry Cars and travel only with carryon luggage.
