Transcripts of Audio Tours?

No update on Europe trip just yet...

But one question I asked the RS folks went unanswered and I thought I would ask here on the forum.

The RS audio walking tours that can be downloaded - is there a way to get the transcripts to read? (I like to read up on each sight but don't want to look them up online on phone or ipad as its difficult to read outside in the bright light so I would have printed them out without pictures) . The audio tours themselves are utterly useless to me - Deaf. :)

I checked the website but see no option to get transcriipts. Are they available?

Thanks!

I do not have the app on my device at the moment. When i used it for our Italy trip last year, the transcripts were included with each audio guide. You just have to go in the menu of the app to find it along with any map drawing. I do recall that there was a problem with either the iphone or android version where part of the transcript got cut off. I reported it but i do not know if it was fixed.

EDIT: Downloaded Android version and found it. Click the menu in the top right hand corner of the app and then select "View Script"

I don't have anything to chime in on about the transcripts, but I'm glad to know you're still trying to plan your trip!

looking at the iPhone app - which is quite different from the android version - once a tour starts there is a row of icons across the bottom, a map icon, a box with a stickman inside, and a share box, and on the far right side a settings wheel.

The box with the stick man shows the transcript; the share box allows you to forward the file as an email.

Rick's guidebooks are the transcripts. All of the audio tours are simply spoken versions of the walking tour that appear in his books....word for word.

Thanks everyone!

Found it both on my phone (android) and ipad. Making city packets from them (instead of wearing out 1 big packet of stapled papers). Much easier than dragging the guidebook around!

(They should consider adding a link to transcripts on the website to make it easier to find!)

Like I posted above, in one of the operating systems (apple or android), some of the transcripts get cut off at some point. I am not sure if RS has fixed the problem. You should double check to see that you get a complete set of the transcript. I believe that there was a way to open up the full transcript using another piece of software, but I can't recall how and it was rather cumbersome to do it. If you have both operating systems available to you, pick the one that works.
