What is the advantage of traveling first vs. second class. Are there more scenic vs. direct routes that would still result in a one-day trip?

The train runs from Milan to Geneva take just under 5.0hrs. Some runs require no train changes and some require one at Brig, Switzerland. 1st class has a bit more arm and leg room but that's the only difference fromm 2nd class. There are 3 seats across instead of 4. The 2nd class fare I see is 59Euro. The 1st class fare is 92Euro. That's quite a chunk for a bit more arm and leg room.
