Any tips on train travel in one day from Lorch Germany to Amsterdam Schiphol airport for a one night stay until we fly back to Cda the next day? We will have an auto rental we need to drop off before we catch the train.

Use the German Rail schedule and fare webpage. Put in Lorch (Rhein) to Schiphol (airport).
I would have thought go down (NW) the Rhein to Köln and take an ICE from Köln to Amsterdam, but apparently it's faster to go up the Rhein to Wiesbaden or Frankfurt.
