So we are traveling for the first time to paris for a 3-4 day trip before we move on. This hotel has a direct access to the metro line 1. But i am not sure how to get there coming from the airport cdg. And feel very overwhemled/ confused about the train travel between the metro and rer and tvg trains to and from around paris. Is there a good map i can download before arrival?
Go to the website http://www.ratp.fr/ and you'll be able to find maps as well as recommended metro/RER routing from CDG to your destination. Click on the British flag icon under "Tourist Information" in the upper right corner of the page.
Kristin - I understand how over whelming and confusing this process can be. Trust me we've all been in your situation before. Using the web site Tom mentioned will be very helpful. Below are the directions RATP will suggest. I hope this helps. You can take the RER B from CDG to Chatelet-Les Halles(direction Saint-Remy-les-Chevreuse). You will have to walk a little ways here From Chatelet-Les Halles take the RER A(direction Le Vesinet-Le Pecq) to Charles de Gaulle-Etoile. From Charles de Gaulle-Etoile Take Metro Line 1(direction La Defense (Grande Arche)) up to Porte Maillot
Both times we have stayed in Paris (2009 and 2010), we have had our Hotel (Le Littre, 6th arron.) book us taxis to and from the airport and the hotel. It worked out perfectly. They have a particular taxi service they use. The rate is a standard rate from/to CDG.
You can save yourself one connection by taking the RER B from CDG to the Chatelet-Les Halles RER station, walking through the connecting tunnels to the Chatelet metro station, and taking metro line 1 to Porte Maillot. Follow the correspondances (connections) signs. For a zoomable map of the metro and RER system, go here:http://tinyurl.com/6xmvms4.
