My family and I (five adults ranging in ages: 26, 28, 31, 62, 63) are traveling in Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, and France during Christmas and New Year's–by train and part by car.
I am befuddled on the best way to buy tickets and what type of tickets to buy. AND if we really can travel on Christmas day.
Our first main train trip will be from Budapest to Munich – a night train. I would like my family to experience a Night Train journey.
The next trip is from Munich to Rothenberg.
Then Rothenberg to Nuremberg.
Then Nuremberg to Lucerne.
We pick up a car in Lucerne. My husband who grew up driving in snowy, icy climes will drive the rest of our stay.
We would be leaving Budapest the night of December 21 with a transfer in Munich to Rothenberg.
We would leave Rothenberg on the morning of the 23rd.
We would leave Nuremberg on the morning of the 25th – YEP Christmas.
I am confused about the best method to purchase train tickets.
Do we purchase the Eurotrain ticket? Where? When?
Do we purchase the Bayern Ticket in Germany? If so, where? when?
Purchase individual tickets?
Online? Where?
At the station?
Do we make seat reservations for all of the trains?
Suggestions? Advice?
Thanks
