We are going to Delft from Maastrict by train in July. We have to change in Eindhoven; the transfer time from platform 5 to 6 is 2 minutes - is this enough time to transfer? Are the platforms across from each other? It certainly doesn't seem very long if you have to get off the train & onto another one. Are the trains on time?
Well you don't need very long to transfer trains and I've never changed in Eindhoven, but 2 minutes is a pretty slim margin of error. Can you choose a transfer that gives you a little more time than that? I'm super conservative and would usually opt for 20 minutes on a transfer like that...you could surely do less.
Also - I just took a look at their rail website and the standard offer on that route is with a 3 minute transfer time...they must feel like it's pretty doable. But their website search page allows you to set a minimum transfer time and, when I did that, it offered me trains with a 29 minute transfer time, so at least you have some options. Maybe someone here who has done that transfer will weigh in.
You only have to cross the platform. On these connections it's practice trains will wait for each other when one is late a few minutes. If your train should be delayed too much, the next train to Delft is just half an hour later. Regard it as a coffee break.
They are right across from each other
Here is a plan of the station
That amount of time for a transfer across platform is doable if you have your luggage and personal belongings in hand and are standing with others near the door when the train comes to a stop.
It is possible to do it in about 20 seconds as long as there is not a long queue ahead of you getting off the train. I wouldn't worry at all.
2 or 3 minutes is enough time to do it 2 or 3 times if you wanted to.
"if you have your luggage and personal belongings in hand and are standing with others near the door when the train comes to a stop."
This part is important. Do NOT wait until the train stops to start gathering your belongings and moving toward the exit door; do this a few minutes before you get to the stop (anyone else getting off at Eindhoven will be doing the same). You need to be ready to exit when the train stops.
This is true for all stations, not just this one. Otherwise, you're "swimming upstream" - trying to get off the train when others are getting on.
