Train tickets purchase prior or at the station

We will be traveling from Rome to Naples then to Sorrento then back up to Florence and finishing in Venice. Should I purchase all our tickets ahead of time or is it safe get them a day or 2 before we depart the area. ?
ps.We want to go first class

For the Circumvesuviana train from Naples to Sorrento, you have not choice but to buy them when you get there. This is a private train system and the trains are all Regionale-type trains. They are like buses, you can stand. The Circumvesuviana does get a bit crowded but just keep an eye on your luggage and your surroundings. Fare is about 4E and the travel time is about 1hr 15min. For Rome the Naples, you will most likely be on a high-speed. You can buy online in advance to take advantage of the nice mini-fares. Limited fares of 9E are available. When they sell out, it goes to 19E. Then, 29E and then 39E. Buy early if you want the best mini-fares. But, this locks you into a specific train and departure time. Or, when you arrive in Rome, you can buy your tickets for your Naples departure then. Or, you can show up a bit early and buy your tickets for the next high-speed to Naples. The last method is usually not risky as the trains don't usually fill up. But, there are about 35-40 trains to Naples a day from Rome. You'll get there.

If going first class - never fills up. In fact you could be the only ones in the car.
