train tickets

There will be 3 adults traveling by train throughout several countries in Europe. I’ve researched the routes and ready to purchase our tickets. I read somewhere that you can’t have multiple tickets (for different people) on the same phone. If you get checked for your ticket on the train you will be fined for not having your own ticket on your own phone. Is this correct?

It’s possible in some countries. But my husband and I have traveled the last few years UK, Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany and it was not any issue with both our tickets on my phone. They were all QR codes. So if you think you might separate for any reason you could print paper or share screen shot with your companions. Note in some train stations you need to scan that QR code to get through initial barriers to get to the platform. So you would need to enter together or have that alternative to enter separately.

This varies from place to place, but it depends on how you define " trains " State Railway Systems like SNCF, Deutsche Bahn , and OBB ( Austrian ) sell tickets for their services for multiple travelers on a single account . The issue you are confronted with, often occurs on local transit systems. The French navigo decouverte card for travel within Paris ,for instance, requires separate phones for each traveler. The London tube also requires separate cards for each person

Too unspecified question: Which countries? Which rail company?

In ticket purchase process you are normally asked for number and age of travelers. So you book a ticket for multiple persons. Also for subscription services like D-ticket a lot of apps allow to have multiple tickets on one phone.
