Train Paris to Basel

There are 4 of us (seniors) spending 3 days in Paris and then heading to Basel on 11/28 to meet friends for a Viking Christmas market cruise. I have been trying to get information on taking the correct train to Basel. We had a change in plans and I am concerned we missed an opportunity to book TGV. We are staying near Notre Dame. I think we should leave from Gare de Lyons to Basel (SBB) and would like to take the quickest route. Maybe my problem is the information I have gotten from AI.

I did look in the Paris forum and did not see an answer. Thank you

If you look on SNCF Connect there is still plenty of availability that day on the four direct TGV services from Gare de Lyon- at 0721, 1052, 1621 and 1821, as well as on many slower connecting services from Paris Est- https://www.sncf-connect.com/

On train websites just enter the name of the cities you are travelling from and to. The website will always specify the correct station for that train. For example, from Paris to Basel, the SNCF trains leave from Gare de l'Est, but SBB trains leave from Gare de Lyon.

I'd check both train lines websites to compare departure times, trip durations, and fares for their direct trains.

This is completely wrong. All trains from Paris to Basel now leave from Gare de Lyon, and they are all operated by SNCF.

I worded my response poorly. When I look at the SNCF website, there are plenty of trains to Basel from Gare de l'Est,but the trains from Gare de Lyon are direct trains. Phillip, could I be looking at the wrong website?

Thank you I feel better it's not as easy as I had hoped. Yes, we would like to make the trip as quick and direct as possible.

How easy did you hope it to be?

Its not really difficult. You can use SNCF Connect, or SBB or Trainline to buy tickets. Direct trains leave from Gare de Lyon and depending on the day there are up to 6 direct ones. Other options are from Gare de l'Est, but they all require a change in Strasbourg.

Maybe my problem is the information I have gotten from AI.

Yes. Absolutely. AI is making us all dumber.
