Hello!
I'm planning a trip to Germany, with Frankfurt as the starting point. The best flight options for me are to fly into Paris CDG and then continue on to Frankfurt from there. I'm considering taking the train from Paris CDG to Frankfurt Hbf instead of flying from CDG to FRA. However, I've never taken trains in continental Europe (though I have many times in the UK) so I'm not entirely certain what the best options are for such a train journey.
I have the following questions:
- Is this a reasonable journey to consider if I'm not in a rush to get to Frankfurt on my arrival day?
- It looks like the TGV station at Charles de Gaulle doesn't have any high-speed trains to Germany; is that correct?
- Assuming there's not a high-speed option directly from Charles de Gaulle, I believe the following is my best option. Does this seem correct?
- RER B from Charles de Gaulle to Paris Gare du Nord
- Walk ~10 minutes from Paris Gare du Nord to Paris Gare de l'Est
- ICE from Paris Gare de l'Est to Frankfurt Hbf
- S-Bahn from Frankfurt Hbf a few stops to the station nearest my hotel in Frankfurt
- Assuming the above route is correct, how long should I allow from the time my plane is scheduled to land at CDG until the time I arrive at Gare de l'Est? This includes passport control, picking up checked bag (if I have one), taking the RER B to Gare du Nord, and walking to Gare de l'Est?
- Is there a single site/service that I can purchase all of these tickets from, or should I just purchase the RER B ticket at CDG and the ICE ticket from DB?
- Are there any other things I should know/be aware of for a trip like this?
Thank you all in advance for any assistance you can provide!
