Is there a train from Locarno that goes directly to Milan's Malpensa IAP or do you have to go into Milan's main station and then to the airport.
Doug, AFAIK, you will have to transit via Milan to reach MXP. On a trip from Locarno, there are two choices: 1.) Travel to Milano Centrale and use the Malpensa Shuttle (Bus) to MXP. The trip is about 50 minutes (depending on traffic). 2.) Travel to Milano Centrale, take the Metro to Cadorna station and then the Malpensa Express (train) to MXP. Travel time is 40-minutes, with no worries about traffic. As Locarno is on a "spur line", you'll have at least one change of trains at Bellinzona. Cheers!
Ken, Thanks for the information regarding travel from Locarno to Malpensa Airport.

A variation on #2, above. Take the train only as far as Como San Giovanni station. From there it is 1.4 km walking, slightly farther, but faster, by taxi to the Stazione LeNord in Como, at the harbor. The train from there will take you all the way to the airport with one change in Saronno (same line as Cadorna to the airport, you just don't have to go into Milan to catch it).
