Train from Copenhagen to Stockholm

I just made a train reservation using snalltaget.se after sj.se said there were no tickets for Sept 6th. Is that right - for 2 months out?

Also, just another check - my ticket is from Kobenhavn H to Stockholm Central - these are the main stations correct?

Thanks.

Yes, those are the main train stations for Copenhagen and Stockholm.

It looks like SJ just hasn't made tickets available yet for September 6th. There are plenty of tickets available for the 5th or earlier, but none (yet) for the 6th or later. Snalltaget does sometimes offer SJ tickets for sale before SJ itself does (I was able to get a great fare from Stockholm to Malmo that way), so it sounds like you're good to go. Have a great trip!

Ahh..the other way, I'm not used to being early for tickets. I did buy a refundable ticket, maybe I could get a better price/time tomorrow from SJ.

Have you considered flying? You should at least price it. I'd personally take the one hour flight rather than a five hour train ride. If I preferred slower travel, I'd choose an overnight ferry and see the archipelago going into Stockholm.

If you do this, make sure you're comparing apples to apples. Copenhagen airport is convenient to the city center, but Stockholm's main airport, Arlanda, is 20 miles outside of town. There are several options for getting from Arlanda to central Stockholm; some will save you time, some will save you money, but none will save you both. For example, the walk-up fare on the Arlanda Express is 280 kr, which is more that you might pay for the whole train ride from Copenhagen to Stockholm.

(Is there a ferry from Copenhagen to Stockholm? I know there's one from Copenhagen to Oslo, and from Stockholm to Helsinki and other points east, but I haven't heard of one between Copenhagen and Stockholm.)

The ferries are an interesting idea - is there an equivalent webite(s) for ferries like the ones for trains?

I haven't done this complete ride, but I enjoyed the countryside in the half closest to Stockholm. But then I like trains because I can enjoy the countryside. You might just want to get there, to Stockholm. I enjoy the process.

There is no ferry between Copenhagen and Stockholm. Despite how many times it is suggested on this site, it does not exist!
I travel between Copenhagen and Stockholm a few times a year and Khbuzzard hits the nail on the head. Flying might save you an hour travel time in total, but with the train you get 5 hours where you can just sit and enjoy the scenery (lots and lots of trees), use the wifi etc. very relaxing. Flying you have the hassle of getting to and from airports, checking in, security etc. plus the Arlanda express can ost as much as the train between CPH and Stockholm. To sum it up, flying is a bit faster, but the train is more relaxing.

This is strange - I still don't see the Copenhagen-Stockholm route on SJ for Sept 6th, but I see tickets available for October. Is this due to some kind of strike or construction issue?

Also, do SJ and Snalltaget cover the same train routes - or does one have some routes the other doesn't have?

Edit: I googled to some info from SJ that listed construction on the Stock-Malmo-Copenhagen line, but it is in November. Reading more, it seems like track maintenance is the main reason for dates being vacant. Of course, now I wonder if my ticket from snalltaget might be affected by the same issues - they are the same trains I assume.

Took the train on July 4th from Stockholm but I had purchased my ticket about 3 weeks before. I'm passing through the central station in Copenhagen today. I will check to see if tickets can be purchased once you're in Copenhagen.

SJ is the state owned rail company and covers all of Sweden. Snälltåget is a private rail company that only operates a few routes. They have their own trains, but run on the same tracks as SJ.
Sj.se does not list any track work on that route for sep. 6th.
My guess is that the tickets for SJ have just not become available yet.

yes, just strange to me Sept 6 is not available, but the month of October is.
