train from Carcassonne to Barcelona-booking question

Will be joining a Rick Steves Barcelona-Madrid tour in 2020. Will be starting in Paris. Going to take the train to Carcassonne, stay one day, then on to Barcelona. Not sure how to book the Carcassonne-Barcelona ticket. Raileurope.com (the Rick Steves travel partner), says they can book the Carcassonne-Narbonne segment, but then I will have to book the Narbonne-Barcelona segment "locally". Not sure what that really means and haven't gotten a clarification. Has anyone traveled this route recently and can tell me how you went about it? I've used SNCF extensively, but never to Spain.

Thanks

I am on my way there in December. You will see better options if you search using the official rail site
https://en.oui.sncf/en , but it sounds like you are looking too far in advance. If you are searching for trains in February.

The Narbonne to Barcelona is operated by RENFE (the Spanish national rail network) in partnership with SNCF (the French National Rail Network).

You will pay more if you buy the tickets from RailEurope--possibly much more, because it sometimes doesn't display all the options.

I see that now.....thanks......
Our trip is in May, but I was just generally looking (using November-December dates). I couldn't get fare information on my search, but yours came up fine.

Thanks again.

I've had good luck with SNCF, French rail. I had a much harder time booking a train on the Spanish rail site. You should be able to get something from Perpignan to Barcelona. Perpignan is the transportation hub. It won't be bad to route through Narbonne and give yourself some time to look around.

SNCF will happily let you book a ticket from Carcassonne to Barcelona. Change in Narbonne or Perpignan, waits are usually annoyingly long. If OUI SNCF website doesn't agree with you or with your CC, try Trainline, for a nominal extra fee.
