My husband and I are following several stages of the Tour de France. We have a two day gap after leaving the Tour de France at Tours, France, and the Loire Valley before we go back to Paris and our flight home. We will have already visited the South of France and Province area (Nice, Marsialles, Avignon) ....any great ideas anyone? We will have already had several days in Paris, Belgium, Netherlands. So, we had thought Bordeaux region, but with the reviews of the area seen here there may be something we have overlooked? Is there another area we could travel to and "do" in two days time? Thanks so much!
Dordonge or Alsace regions...both beautiful. Alsace with all the half timbered homes in Kaysersburg and Colmar. If you are active, there is great hiking in the Alsace region through the vineyards. http://about-france.com/regions/alsace.htm

Ellen, thanks so much, just didnt know if we would have enough time to travel there by train.. we are looking into it! Many thanks!
We spent a night in Bordeaux in May and liked it very much. I'd probably make a return trip to the city of Bordeaux if I were in that region again. I agree that Dordogne would be a nice destination - stay in Sarlat, Beynac, or La Roque-Gageac if you have a car. But, since you're flying home from Paris something north of the Loire Valley might be good...
With only two days until you have to be in Paris, I would find something that doesn't require a ton of travel time. My first recommendation is the Burgundy region. Lots to do/see there, but yet easy enough to pick just a few things for a 2 day visit. Second recommendation is Normandy. If you head to Bordeaux, you are heading away from Paris and the amount of time it takes to get to Paris will eat in to your time to sightsee.
I agree with Dina. With only a couple of days, Burgundy is the perfect place to visit. It is very easy to return to Paris and there are beautiful villages that certainly can be explored easily with a car...places like Chateauneuf en Auxois and the Burgundy canal,Semur en Auxois, Noyers, Chablis, Beaune, Montreal, Avallon.Driving is quite easy on the small roads and you return in a matter of 2-3 hours to Paris. We drop off our car at Orly and take a cab into Paris.
I so appreciate all of your responses. As we are traveling primarily by train that adds another dimension to the itinerary..We may go back to Paris early to do more sightseeing there. Thanks so much!
More time in Paris sounds like a great idea - especially since you won't have a rental car! Enjoy your travels!
