I was looking at www.minimus.biz. They have travel sizes of just about anything. I noticed they have the sealed paper containers of shampoo, conditioner and shaving cream like you get in cheaper motels. I'm wondering if I would have to put those in the quart baggy since they are sealed. Any ideas?
Yes. If the paper containers hold liquid they need to be in the ziploc bag.
Definitely yes. Liquids or gels that are not prescriptions must go in the 1-quart ziplock bag.
You know I just pack shampoo in my checked baggage, trick is to make sure you pour out about a 1/2 OZ. to allow for any expansion and seal in double baggy.
When I travel with carry on( as I do more and more often now) I just bring one or two shampoo samples and buy the rest in Europe, shampoo is great there too!!
I would not jump into the market that has sprung up for buying all these waterless or travel products. I mean Europe has everything you need including Colgate toothpaste.. LOL,plus you can pack as many sample size liquids as you want AS LONG as they all fit in the one baggie.
I go to a different part of Europe every summer and have never found it necessary to take along any liquids (lucky me) as I have always been able to buy anything I need no matter where I go there.
One of my favorite things to do once I arrive is shop, and grocery shopping is no exception. I never travel with shampoo or hair gell or etc... I do take a tiny bar of hand soap, just in case. Even if I don't get to the store right a way, I can go a day without washing my hair etc....
It is always fun to discover new brands, and a little disapointing to realize how international everything is.
One note though if you go this route, there are less options for shaving stuff for women in Europe and is a bit more expensive. The reason being waxing is much more available and cheaper, and common.
We travel alot to Europe and I've tried alot of solid shampoos, conditioners etc. Frankly not worth it. I take a travel size shampoo, travel size conditioner, travel size soap (all of which I usually acquire in my last U.S. hotel room). These get me set for the first night or two. You can get everything in Europe you would buy in the U.S. and frequently the same brands. I pack the little bar of bath/hand soap in a little zip-lock bag and carry it everywhere. Frequently used in less well maintained restrooms. Everything fits well within the 1 quart TSA approved baggie. Be advised, some EU countries only allow 10 items in the baggie no matter what the size.
Technically even "liqui-gel" capsules like nyquil would be considered 3-1-1 bagable. But thats probably a stretch. But instead of packets that you may find along the way - one tiny sample bottle is all you need since most places have the dispensers. You can always fill it back up at the next place or buy local. Also - if you want it just incase (like i do) for places that run out or dont have the all-purpose dispenser - get a tiny BAR-SHAMPOO on that minimuz website. 89cents and non-liquid.
Thanks everyone. I'll be there for 3 weeks and the 3 oz bottles won't last. I realize I can buy things once I get there but have read more than once that small sizes are not readily available. I didn't want to have to buy big bottles of shampoo, gel, etc to carry around.
I guess I'll carry some travel size containers (larger than 3 oz), buy big bottles, fill my travel containers and throw the rest away.
