To blog or not to blog!

We are spending 3 weeks in Italy in April, 2013. We would like to create a daily blog to include our days photo's and send it at night. We will have an iPad and iPhone with us. What Apps work best? Just send an email with the photo's attached via Picaso or? HELP!

I blogged on my last trip, mostly to let my husband know how my trip was going, but also to keep a journal of my trip. Only a few people had my blog info to follow along. I used my iPad, and had difficulty posting photos. I ended up adding them after my return home. It's possible that I was doing something wrong, as I am not very tech savvy.

I blogged my last trip (in May), too. I used Blogger (www.blogger.com). It could not have been easier, and you can upload pics directly from Picasa, if you want. I uploaded mine to my computer every night, and just added them to my blog from there. It's very user friendly.

Blog. Blogger.com is very easy to use. I'd taken my MacBook Pro. My only problem was taking too many pictures and falling asleep while uploading them. Pace yourself!

We have never blogged. I think it is like showing your pictures when you get home. They mean more to you than anyone. We send emails about where we are and if anyone is interested they can surf the WEB.

No one is forced to read your blog Monte. Unless someone makes a comment you don't even know who read it.

Re: posting pictures.
I didn't post all of my pictures, only select ones that illustrated something I was talking about. Those who wanted to see all of them asked to do so later.

Mark, I've been using TravelPod for a few years, and it's worked very well. I've been travelling with a Netbook for the last few years, and it's been very easy to upload photos or short videos to the Blog, as well as post or edit entries. With an iPad, you might consider packing along an accessory keyboard, as you may find that easier to use than the virtual keyboard. IMHO, an iPhone is of "limited value" for Blogging due to the small screen and keyboard. While it may be possible, I've found with an iPod Touch that sort of thing becomes tedious very quickly. Be sure that you're fully aware of the "issues" regarding data roaming with your iPhone. Also, your phone may or may not work in Europe, depending on which network you're with and which model iPhone you're using. Cheers!

WOW, Thanks for all the reply's. We plan on doing something. Our friend last year did a self guided Rick Steves tour for 2 weeks and blogged every night. We really looked forward to seeing Al's post every night. I hope our family and friends do the same. Thanks again! And wee'll check into blogger.com. Mark

Mark, Further information to add to my previous comments.... I just learned that TravelPod has an iPhone Mobile App for posting entries. Of course, this would require data use so would only be possible from Wi-Fi areas when travelling. While I still feel that an iPhone is of "limited use" for Blogging, it could be useful for posting short entries and photos where Wi-Fi is available. Cheers!

For blogger.com users: does blogger have an easy way to "share" your blog link to your Facebook page? I looked at the site and didn't see the answer to that.

I post a written entry and selected pics on a Shutterfly sharing site. About two dozen people have access. Only a few leave messages but most of my friends tell me they follow along. Of course, no one keeps tabs so nobody has to look at it. The site is flexible and works well, but, at times a slow internet connection made it difficult to upload pics.

To share a Blogger blog to Facebook or Twitter, click the "Share" link at the top of the page, next to the search box.

I've blogged on my last 3 trips to France using Blogger. It's quite easy to use. I also found that it was enjoyable writing about my trip as I went along, and was a good way to keep track of my trips for future reference. I usually had anywhere from 4 to 7 pictures per post, interspersed into the post and with a connection to what I wrote about (as opposed to just emailing a bunch of pictures). As to distribution, Blogger lets you add 10 email addresses for automatic distribution each time you post, then I made a separate group in my email program for other people who I wanted to send the posts to, and I would just attach a link to my current post and send it to the group each time I published a new one.

I blogged our trip to Europe on 2011. I had just bought an iPad and had classes at Apple and they helped me set it up with a Gmail account - it is a blog press app. It was easy! I wasn't sure if I would actually do it or not. I didn't want it to be my focus or take up too much time. But, my husband would fall asleep and I would write about our day each night. I found that I really enjoyed it. It was great for our close friends, family and my elderly parents to see what we were up to. Also, it was kind of a diary that we still have of all the little things we may have forgotten if I had not written them down. I included just a few pictures each day, but it was really fun! Even today we love reading the posts...do it!
