We have scheduled walking tours with the purchaser of Walks of Italy and tours by locals in Italy, Spain and Turkey. Is a tip expected by the guide and if so what is a reasonable tip? Thanks for your help in advance
I love doing walking tours and we usually tip around 5-10 euro pp, depending on how long the tour is. For the "free" Citywalk" ones, we tip the equivalent of $20 US dollars pp since there is no fee upfront.
Concur with mikliz97. If it's a free walk the guide's only compensation is a tip, so $20 per person. If we paid for the walk $10 if it's great, $5 if just average. We had a walking tour guide in London and he didn't seem like he wanted to be there at all, so nothing for him. I've found it pretty rare to have a crummy tour guide. Most are memorable in a good way.
Recently had three free walk tours. Dubrovnik, Mostar, Sarajevo. We tipped €15 in Dubrovnik and 15km in Bosnia. For the two of us. It is hard to get a handle of who tips what, as the guide simply take the money handed to them or in the hat. So they never know how much each person gives until later. Your tip is his hand or hat and he knows not what you gave. So you never get credit for a good tip, not any glares for a meager one.
