Which train station?

If you walk in my speed it will take you about 20 minutes to get to the Heathrow Express station or the tube station.

But if you mean the station where you take the train to Sheffield I don't know.

BTW. I think you will get more responds if you move this to the England section.

I don't think you go through Customs, but Immigration and Passport Control instead.
It all depends on who is ahead of you in line, so no possible way to tell.

Which train station are you talking about? The only trains at Heathrow itself are the Heathrow Express/Connect and the Underground.

You have to get to either St. Pancras or Kings Cross rail stations to get a train to Sheffield.

There are two ways to get to those stations--Heathrow Express to Paddington and then either tube or taxi or Underground direct via Piccadilly line to Kings Cross. (St. Pancras is across the street)

The walk from the exit after walking through customs to the Heathrow terminal 1,2,3 station is about 15 minutes. It will take an hour more of less to then get to Kings Cross/St. Pancras although I would allow a little extra time to consider wait times and delays. (The Piccadilly line has had serious delays recently.)

The most straight forward way is to walk to the Piccadilly underground line c 15 minutes then take this all the way to Kings Cross/St Pancras. Otherwise you have much more walking and a change of tubes.

Use tfl.gov.uk for London journey planning.

Trains to Sheffield leave from St Pancras. The most convenient route is the Piccadilly Line from Heathrow to Kings Cross St Pancras tube station - an hour is probably a bit optimistic though. Don't buy a cheap London-Sheffield rail ticket in advance unless you're willing to leave several hours in case of tube delays. Also be aware that the platform for trains to Sheffield and the domestic rail ticket office are a long walk from the tube station platforms.

DO NOT use Heathrow Express. It is expensive and although it travels much faster it doesn't go far enough. So their advertising's theoretical time saving is wasted (as is more money) trying to get from where they end to where you need to be.

As said by others, you need the Undergound (Piccadilly Line, which is the only one at Heathrow). You also need to study the map of terminal 3 http://www.heathrow.com/file_source/Heathrow/Static/PDF/Maps/Heathrow_T3_Map.pdf see page 5

It is a direct journey of about 55-60 minutes to the station "KINGS CROSS - ST PANCRAS". This is shared by two mainline rail terminals and has exits to both - if you have to cross a road you used the wrong one! If you use the correct exit you arrive into what appears to be a shopping mall with Eurostar trains from France and Belgium above you. Walk straight down the mall, keep going it's a long way. Look for signs to Midland Mainline, if you see Thameslink you are close but need to go upstairs, if you see Southeastern Highspeed you're on the wrong side, if you see Eurostar departures you haven't gone far enough.

Heathrow customs exit to Midland Mainline platform will take at least 90 minutes. Dare I ask what you plan for train tickets?

Getting from the airport terminal to Heathrow railway station is just one of the times you have to factor in, and not the largest. Very rough ballpark figures for the times after you land:

  • Taxiing, de-planeing, walking through corridors: 20-30 minutes
  • Immigration (passport control): 10 - 60 minutes.
  • Luggage reclaim: 5 minutes (by the time you come out of immigration, your bags are probably waiting for you)
  • Customs: 30 seconds (walk through "nothing to declare")
  • Walk to underground station: 15-20 minutes.
  • Piccadilly line train to Kings Cross St Pancras: 60 minutes. An alternative is Heathrow Express to Paddington, but than you need to take the tube to St Pancras, so it will only save ~15 minutes.
  • Walk up out of underground station to correct platform at St Pancras: 5-10 minutes.

You can now catch your train to Sheffield.
