Time It Took To Renew Passport

FYI. Mailed two applications to the special "expedited" P.O. Box in Philadelphia on Wednesday, 7 June. Received both new passports today, Saturday, 17 June. Ten days door to door. Wow! Of course, "your mileage may vary".

I renewed my passport last January and was told it could take up to 4 to 6 weeks to receive my new passport. I received my passport within two weeks! Of course if I was in a rush and had to make sure I got my passport in a timely manner, I would have paid the expediting fee .

Sasha, the renewal fee was $110 each and the extra fee for expedited service was $60 each. If you are in a super hurry they will send the new one to you using an overnight service for another $15 or $16. We did not use the overnight return service, but we did send the old passports to them using certified mail. I strongly urge doing that so it will be traceable and that only cost $7 or $8.

If you have plenty of time before your next trip you can probably get yours renewed via regular processing with out any worries. Responses to an earlier post indicated most of them are being done in four to six weeks.

The State Department has a site that will allow you to fill out the form and then print out the hard copy to mail in. Considering the way many government web sites are, I was really surprised at how clear the instructions were and how easy it was get it done. Let us know if you need specifics.
