Time Change Tonight in Europe

For all of you travelers arriving in Europe tomorrow, just thought I would let you know that tonight, we will "Spring" ahead. So check your watches on the plane or even in your hotel room so you don't miss any trains or planes in your further travels tomorrow.

Yes, thanks, Jo.

You are like the concierge at a little hotel in Brussels, who drew a picture of two clocks, with today's date beneath one, and tomorrow's date below the other, and the hands one hour apart. When I arrived in the evening, he held up the picture, to remind me about springing ahead.

In France, they figured I was aware enough on my own. I wasn't. I had the "fall back" time change in the back of my mind, but didn't quite get around to asking and being certain. I should have known when I arrived at Fontenay an hour past opening time, and they seemed to have just opened. I knew for sure the next morning when I got to the train station at 5:45, and saw that it was 4:45. Long day!

I was talking to someone in Paris the other day and we were only five hours different. I had always thought the difference was six hours which left a big question mark in my mind (If Europe doesn't do daylight savings, shouldn't it be five hours difference in the summer and six in the winter?).

Now I know the answer. There is a brief period where we have already "sprung" and Europe has yet to spring. Thanks Jo.
