Does anyone have any advice on planning a through hike on the Via Alpina? Has anyone done a portion of it? Any ideas for finding a hiking partner?
Thanks, Lisa!
Really... I don't have any answers to your specific questions. In fact, I had never heard of the Via Alpina prior to your post. (And me, living in Austria!) Anyway, I googled it:

Looks FANTASTIC. I think todays daydream at my desk will be of getting a couple of my friends to take a month off with me to hike the thing. On a more practical note, I do frequently hike in the Vienna Woods and the trails are generally well marked and there are usually cozy inns with food and drink conveniently spaced or at main trail crossings. The article above says there are inns with rooms in each "segment" of the via alpina. A segment defined as no more than a 6 hour hike. Anyway, I look forward to hearing comments from people (unlike me) who actually know what they are talking about. Happy hiking!
