We were in Paris.... won't be able to go back for five years and have been reminiscing. So what were yo doing this time last year?
We were packing for our trip to Italy with our two daughters. Good memories.
Wrapping things up for my trip to Germany, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam in July.
Marilyn, At this time last year (on June 3rd), I was on the RS Athens & The Heart of Greece tour. That day included a short tour of Epidavros and then Ferry to Hydra for a day or two. I especially remember the tour of Epidavros, as we had a substitute local Guide that day. She wanted to demonstrate the acoustics in the large Amphitheatre, but a group of school children were making too much noise. She proceeded to "tear a strip off them in Greek", and then continued with her demonstration (which the school kids also seemed to enjoy). I thought the whole scenario was quite entertaining! Cheers!
Starting the last week of my trip by taking the ICE from Berlin to Düsseldorf via Frankfurt on 2 June, visited on 3 June the military cemetery on WWI and WW II in Viersen in the lower Rhine area, (Niederrheingebiet)...glad I did.
I was walking across Spain on the Camino de Santiago. I had been walking for almost two weeks, starting Saturday May 22nd in St Jean Pied du Port France, in the French Pyranees Basque country. On Thursday June 3rd I arrived in the city of Burgos and decided to take a two day break, getting a hotel room instead of staying in the alburgue. I left Burgos on Saturday morning and walked for another 19 days arriving in Santiago de Compostela on June 23rd.
I'm getting so nostalgic...this time last year I was getting ready for our wedding, and our 3 month honeymoon to Europe. Croatia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France! Good thing/Lucky us we'll be returning to other euro countries next year!
I was just getting caught up at work after having been out the entire month of May on the RS Best of Europe tour, followed by a few days in London. I spent this May re-reading my blog entries from last year. It was like a mini-vacation!
We were waking up in Quarto d'Altino in the Veneto. Saw a green woodpecker at breakfast and had lovely home-made fruit salad for breakfast.
Preparing for my move to Germany.
We were getting ready and packing for a month in Paris.
Preparing for a 14 day trip to England and Scotland. It was the first trip overseas for my family (wife and daughter). My wife and I are getting ready for a 9 day trip to Amsterdam, Brussels, and Paris this August.
Taking a break from Europe, we were planning a big 'ol road trip to Wisconsin. Not that Wisconsin's that different from Germany, it just has more water parks.
We were preparing for our one month home exchange in Utrecht (as well as our wedding). Had a wonderful time in The Netherlands and will go back someday. This year we are in the midst of getting ready for home exchanges in England and Ireland.
I was taking a nap.
I was on the couch recovering from foot surgery and dreaming of my next trip. I wanted to return for an extended tour of Italy, and I did just that later in the year.
Last year at this time I was preparing to lose my job, after 25 years, due to a plant closing. I had just hosted a friend visiting from Spain, but the only traveling I got to do last year was a road trip to my parents' condo on the Gulf Coast of Florida. I won't be traveling abroad again until next May, when I will go back to Spain, visiting my friend and traveling for two weeks, and then doing a week at Vaughantown.
This time last year, had just returned from a 4 day trip to Edinburgh with my daughter. We were celebrating her finishing high school and her birthday. Loved the city, can't wait to go back, especially for Tattoo and for the Fringe. Such a wonderful, lively city and the Ryan Air flights are cheap!
Hey Nancy, I did Vaughantown or Pueblo Ingles too (twice) at La Alberca and Gredos which was one of the venues for the old program! It was where I first learned of the Camino and set my sights on doing it! It is such a unique experience and a great way to meet people and you can't beat the price!!!
Last year we were preparing to leave for a 17 day road trip through Yorkshire, Northumberland, and the Scottish highlands, with four days of Paris for dessert! This year we will be enjoying our first "non-summer" vacations--I am now an English / history teacher EMERITUS!!!!! (as of yesterday-retirement is lovely)
Buying my tickets to Italy!!!!!!And planning obsessively trip. Oh the planning is sooooo fun.
Beginning to come up for air, as Nashville was beginning to recover from its 500-year flood. Travel-wise, we were looking forward to our late summer Greece/Turkey trip.........it was fabulous. Years do fly by, but the travel memories last a lifetime :)
Waiting out a rain shower under a tree in Trastevere. Sigh.
We were planning our trip to Rome & Venice and had just bought our plane tickets!! We are now planning another trip to Rome again for our Honeymoon in Fall 2012!! So excited!!
We were in NY C and Niagara Falls. We lodged in New Jersey and a hostel in Niagara. Memories.
Thanks for all the great responses. Cynthia congratulations on your retirement!
This time last year I think I was arriving in Copenhagen. Right now, I'm in London and it's pouring rain... which is why I'm on the Internet. I have to fly home tomorrow and I'm getting seriously depressed.
I was busy planning our trip to Paris and Normandy - which had me a nervous wreck (figuring out the trains, etc). All turned out fabulously. Wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
@ Cynthia, I'd also like to wish you a "happy retirement"! I retired just over a year ago, and YES, retirement is lovely (although funding travels is now a bit more "challenging"). The day I retired, the song Sweet Freedom was on the radio, so I thought that was very appropriate! You might remember the movie Running Scared as the song was used in the movie, in the context of "retirement".
June 5th, 2010, I was wrapping up my last few days in Arezzo, Italy (studying there) and getting ready to travel with a friend to Zurich and Garmisch.
