This sounds encouraging.....

It looks like some very limited travel is now opening up, at least for some people.....

Hopefully when more vaccinations have been done, the situation will improve further. Two of the destinations on the list (Iceland and Barbados) are experiencing "volcano problems" right now, but that may decrease in a few months.

Ken, I hope that as more vaccines are administered and numbers continue to go down, even more countries will open up. Here in NY things are loosening up little by little. Other states are opening up also, slowly, but it’s happening. Every day there are emails about airlines adding routes and advertisements to come visit such and such a city. Keeping positive for the fall.

Thank you Ken. I've been checking Embassy websites and here is what I think is a complete list. But some of these countries, while open to tourism do have internal lockdowns, mostly selective towns and cities or regions. At least one is on the brink of war and two may see some internal unrest as a result if the same forces agitating the war. Guess COVID isn't the only thing in life.

Soon, maybe: Greece, Israel
Also: The US, Mexico, much of Central and South America and the Caribbean.

The two most encouraging for me are Greece and Croatia. They are EU and maybe they will put a crack in the EU wall.

Some perspective: Only 5% of the worldwide population is vaccinated. That should be some cause for humility. Even though folks here are primarily (and some exclusively) focused on Europe, what happens in Brazil doesn't stay in Brazil...or South Africa, etc.

Agnes, this isn't directed at you, because your wording was indefinite enough, but isn't it time we realize that calling the variants South African and Brazilian will cause the same horrible consequences that calling COVID the C-word Virus did? Once again we are pegging minorities with the cause. Small now,, but when they become the majority strains and people realize the vaccine is useless against them,, then what? Let's try and be fair and call them COVID B117 and P.1.

Those countries may be open to US citizens, but until the world wide numbers of COVID come down and vaccinations go up, I will stick with dreaming and planning. Travel is always a personal decision on how much risk one is willing to take, and right now I'm not willing to take that risk. Travel is important - to the traveler and to the countries visited - but in the big scheme of things it's not THAT important.

Goodness knows, working where I do, I could use some encouraging news, and the list of countries accepting Canadians changes frequently to allow for vaccinations, so I continue to hope and plan even a skeleton potential trip, but when I read this, my thoughts went to '...so we can, but should we?"
Allowing vaccinated people in is only one piece of my determining factor - and I hope others look beyond personal impact to community impact of their decisions; though given the amount of 'local' travel, that concept ain't happening.

We’re still hopeful of visiting England on June 14 but our two West End musicals were postponed until late summer. Fortunately we paid for the cancellation plans. Unfortunately, we have two nights open on our itinerary.
