Travel to Europe is getting expensive!!! The weak dollar is not helping. My question is: Where in all of Europe (East, West, North, and South) does the dollar still get you, any sort, of value?
1) The Balkans 2) Poland 3) the Baltics 4) Russia, to a certain degree.
By the way, the dollar gained a few points on the euro this week...
Definitely go East - even places like Croatia are starting to get expensive
Of course, the East is the best place for your buck. In 2006 we stayed in a super-luxurious Krakow hotel for about $100. After that, try Portugal...we were there last month and paid about 50E a night for OK accommodations. If that's still too much, try Central America for a trip or two.
Central America is still a great value. We found a 10-day land tour for $995 per person, not including airfare.
I think Greece can still be a bargain compared to the rest of Europe. I was still finding lots of double rooms under 50 Euro, and great meals for two under 20 Euro just a couple years ago. In general, South and East tend to be cheaper, North, more expensive the further up you go. (England just scares me with what things cost!)
